Environmental Education
Nippon Express is helping out with environmental education to pass on a prosperous and sustainable society to future generations.
"kids X change" is an educational tool for Japanese fourth- to sixth-graders designed independently along the lines of "youth X change." School faculty members were brought in to supervise its development, and innovative means were employed to seamlessly integrate environmental education into ordinary lessons. "kids X change" enables students to learn about global warming, energy, resources, water, waste, consumption and other global issues within their existing curriculum. Classroom support began in 2008 and, as of 2010, has been provided to a total of 5,000 children at 80 schools. Please feel free to download and make use of "kids X change."
"youth X change" is an environmental education tool developed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). By 2008, it had been translated and put to educational use in 20 different countries for the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014). Designed primarily for young persons aged 15-25, "youth X change" seeks to heighten awareness of the need for lifestyles and consumption compatible with a sustainable planet.
Nippon Express agreed to cooperate in the "youth X change" program, the first Japanese company to do so, as part of its efforts to support environmental education, and has prepared Japanese-language versions of the program materials. Persons wishing to see the original English-language versions should visit the UNEP website.
