Nippon Express to Build New Warehouse in Suzhou, China

11 December 2003

Nippon Express is building a new warehouse in Suzhou (Jiangsu Province), China as part of its efforts to strengthen its domestic logistics operations in China's Huadong region.

Five companies in the Nippon Express Group are pursuing sales of air/ocean cargo international forwarding, warehousing and shipping, and logistics services in the Huadong region, which is served by Shanghai as a gateway. Established in February 2002 in Suzhou's New District, one of the city's technology development zones, Nippon Express (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. (Katsuyoshi Usami, President), began construction on the new warehouse with the aim of acquiring more domestic logistics business in the Huadong region. Completion is scheduled for March 2004.

With a highset flat-roofed 10,000m2 warehouse built on a 40,000m2 lot, the multi-functional facility is to be used for cross docking and JIT parts supply. Installing REWARDS, Nippon Express' standard overseas warehousing system, and linking the facility with other Nippon Express offices inside and outside the country will enable the warehouse to harness the NE Group's extensive capabilities in providing high quality service.

Suzhou has two development zones and an export processing zone into which 200 Japanese companies and Taiwanese EMS manufacturers have expanded their operations; the city has now become a major production point for the high-tech industry. Nippon Express (Suzhou) has been subcontracted by these companies to perform factory-related logistics and provide domestic milk-run transport services. By building this new warehouse in cooperation with Shanghai Express Co., Ltd. (Kikuo Hayashi, President), and Uni-Sky Express Service Co., Ltd. (Takeki Yamaguchi, President), members of the Nippon Express Group that handle forwarding operations, Nippon Express (Suzhou) has enhanced its ability to offer optimal logistics services to customers in the area.
