Nippon Express completes major expansion of Rotterdam facility

Nippon Express (Nederland) B.V. (Toshihiko Fujii, Managing Director), Nippon Express' local subsidiary in the Netherlands, has finally completed construction on its logistics facility in the Port of Rotterdam's Maasvlakte Logistics Complex, and on October 25 held a ceremony to mark the start of operations at the facility.

The new facility is the end product of major additions made to the earlier first phase of construction (completed in May 2001; total warehouse floor area of 10,750m2) in accordance with Nippon Express' integrated logistics concept for Europe to meet rising logistics demand from client companies. Boasting approximately 44,000m2 of warehouse floor space, the facility is now one of the largest in the Nippon Express Group.

Covering an area of 125 hectares, the Maasvlakte Logistics Complex is located at the mouth of the Maas River, a tributary of the Rhine River, and is next to the Delta Terminal in the Port of Rotterdam, Europe's busiest port. Using barges, railways, trucks and other means of transport, delivery within 24 hours is possible throughout most of Europe - to the Czech Republic and Austria in the east, to Ireland in the west, to northern Italy in the south, and to southern Norway in the north - and the port thus well deserves to be called the gateway to European logistics.

With the recent additions, this facility now boasts 53 truck docks and 11-meter-high raised racks capable of holding a total of 25,894 Euro pallets (120cm x 80cm). To increase the efficiency and stability of operations by reach and combi trucks compatible with these raised racks, special measures have been taken to eliminate as far as possible any unevenness in the floor surface.

Making the maximum use of this site's cutting-edge equipment and functions to precisely address the increasingly sophisticated supply chain management of customers, Nippon Express will continue contributing to the expansion of business and logistics in Europe.
