Launch of "SAT! Shanghai" Intermodal Transport Services from Shanghai to Japan and the US/Europe
30 March 2004
Building on its "SAT! Shanghai" intermodal transport service from Japan to Shanghai started in January, Nippon Express launched "SAT! Shanghai" Japan (from Shanghai to Japan), "SAT! Shanghai" US (from Shanghai to the US via Japan), and "SAT! Shanghai" Europe (from Shanghai to Europe via Japan) services in March.
Primarily targeting the Huadong region of China, "SAT! Shanghai" Japan transports cargo to Japan aboard the same high-speed RORO vessel operated by Shanghai Super Express (between Shanghai and Hakata) that is used for the original "SAT! Shanghai" service. Cargo conveyed by Tuesday to Nippon Express' Shanghai CFS and there loaded aboard containers leaves port late Thursday night aboard the Shanghai Super Express and arrives in our Fukuoka CFS on Saturday afternoon. After import customs clearance, the cargo is then transported by domestic flight or charter truck to its final destination, the entire journey completed in as little as four days.
"SAT! Shanghai" US and "SAT! Shanghai" Europe are extensions of the "SAT!! Shanghai" Japan model, and these services offer bonded transport of cargo arriving in Hakata, Japan aboard the Shanghai Super Express to the most suitable major international airport and then onward transport to the US or Europe. Airfreight space cannot keep pace with demand in China, especially in the Huadong region, and this often disrupts transport planning. "SAT! Shanghai" US and "SAT! Shanghai" Europe are innovative products combining regularity and outstanding cost performance by effectively utilizing airfreight space available in Japan.
Nippon Express will continue to develop intermodal transport services that utilize its comprehensive land, sea, and air logistics functions to meet the diverse needs of customers.
