NE Spain Acquires TAPA Certification

30 September 2004

On September 27 the Barcelona Branch of Nippon Express de Espana SA (Katsuhisa Mikuni, Managing Director), Nippon Express' local subsidiary in Spain, received Class A certification from TAPA for meeting that organization's security and safety standards for air cargo handling.

TAPA is the acronym for the Technology Asset Protection Association, a non-profit association of security professionals and security managers at high-tech and household appliance companies that was founded in the US in 1997 and began operations in Europe in 1999. The standards established by TAPA are also used to improve the level of safety in the transport industry, and they are regarded worldwide as the premier guidelines for practical security and safety methodology. Clients, especially those in high-tech industries, have come to demand that transport companies, too, satisfy TAPA standards.

TAPA offers three levels of certification with increasingly strict requirements from Class C to Class A. Among companies operating in Spain, be they Japanese, other foreign, or local companies, NE Spain is the first to acquire Class A certification.

The Nippon Express Group will endeavor to have more of its facilities certified by TAPA in future as it pursues the provision of high-quality service.
