Manifest Data EDI Authorization Obtained from Shanghai Pudong Airport Customs
15 August 2005
On August 2, the Shanghai Branch of Uni Sky Express Service Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Beijing, China; Takeki Yamaguchi, President; "Uni Sky Shanghai"), one of Nippon Express' local subsidiaries in China, became the first Japanese forwarder to receive authorization from the Customs Office at Shanghai Pudong International Airport ("Shanghai Customs") for EDI of air cargo manifest data.
Manifest data has traditionally been transmitted electronically from the forwarder at origin to the airline company at origin, then to a Customs-designated data processing company, on to the agent at destination, and finally to Shanghai Customs. With EDI authorization, this route will be shortened to forwarder at origin (local Nippon Express office).→agent at destination (Uni Sky Shanghai)→Shanghai Customs. Data will be sent directly to Shanghai Customs via Nippon Express' worldwide IT network.
When problems with transmitted data or revisions/corrections and other irregularities arose using the conventional transmission route, import procedures were delayed because only the Customs-designated data processing company was permitted to amend data. From here on out, though, Uni Sky Shanghai will deal directly with Shanghai Customs, enabling it to process shipments even faster.
Uni Sky Shanghai will be conducting trials for several weeks before full-scale introduction of the system, and it will endeavor to further improve the quality of its import setup and to meet the diverse logistics needs of its customers by combining EDI with its existing ULD Intact Service* and round-the-clock operations at Shanghai Pudong Airport.
- ULD: Unit Load Device = pallets and containers used to group cargo into prescribed units Impact Service: a through transport service that takes receipt of cargo directly from aircraft
