Tokyo Air Service Branch Receives Information Security Certification

25 August 2005

The Information System Center at the Tokyo Air Service Branch (Branch Manager: Kazutami Kataoka) of Nippon Express Co., Ltd., has recently obtained certification of its information security management system under both domestic (ISMS Certification Standard Ver. 2.0) and UK criteria (BS7799-2:2002).*

The rapid development and spread of information technology (IT) have been accompanied by computer virus infections, unauthorized access, leakage of confidential and personal information to outside parties, and other serious issues of public concern. The ISMS Certification Standard and BS7799 were developed to certify that security management for information systems at accredited organizations has achieved a prescribed standard.

The Tokyo Air Service Branch's Information System Center is responsible for planning, developing, operating and administering information systems connected with international air cargo, domestic air cargo, and a variety of other logistics services, and the Branch thus handles a broad scope of customer and corporate information. The Branch sells “Privacy Cards," a transport product exclusively for personal information, in support of domestic air cargo operations, and its sophisticated data protection/management approaches ensure information security. Accreditation constitutes a high assessment of the Branch's efforts, and will add further appeal to Nippon Express' high added-value logistics services backed by dependable information systems capable of meeting the needs of global corporate customers.

Nippon Express will continue to pursue the development of quality logistics services by operating reliable and highly secure information systems.

  • The ISMS Certification Standard features certification criteria for an ISMS Conformity Assessment Scheme administered by the Japan Information Processing Development Corporation (JIPDEC), while BS7799 presents the UK certification criteria established by the British Standards Institution (BSI). Both are third-party accreditation schemes for information security management systems, and Nippon Express has been certified under these two schemes by the accreditation organization BSI Japan Co., Ltd.
