Nippon Express opens representative office in Dubai

5 January 2005

On January 1, 2005 Nippon Express opened a new representative office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. For the past five years Nippon Express employees have been stationed in the area on a long-term basis to handle logistics operations in the UAE and neighboring countries, and it was decided to establish an official company format for local operations.

Dubai functions as a logistics gateway not only for the countries of the Middle East but also for a broad range of markets spanning the CIS, Africa, and the Indian subcontinent. The Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ), home to the new representative office, permits local companies to be 100% foreign-owned and offers preferential tax treatment to foreign companies, prompting a sharp rise in the number of foreign companies with facilities there; already more than 20 Japanese companies, mostly manufacturers, have set up operations in the JAFZ. The logistics needs of this area will accordingly rise even further in future, and Nippon Express is developing the organization and business locations needed to continue expanding sales and establish a service structure.

In opening this representative office, the Nippon Express Group aims to bolster its sales activities, improve support to customers in the Middle East, and further expand its overseas network.
