Nippon Express to open new locations in northeastern and west-central China

7 March 2005

New offices will also buttress network in Huadong and Huanan regions

To ensure even better responsiveness to the logistics needs of customer companies, Nippon Express Co., Ltd., is taking the steps outlined below to strengthen and expand its branch/office network in the People's Republic of China.

China's remarkable economic growth has been particularly conspicuous in its coastal regions, but recent years have been marked by a trend toward accelerated expansion by Japanese and other foreign companies into northeastern and west-central China, a development reinforced by Chinese government policy. Logistics demand in China has consequently spread from the coastal regions into the interior of the country.

In addressing this trend, Nippon Express' local subsidiary Uni-Sky Express Service Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Beijing, China; Takeki Yamaguchi, President), will upgrade to branch status the Wuhan Office opened in the city of Wuhan (Hubei Province) last April, and assign a full-time Japanese employee to the branch. In addition, Uni-Sky will set up an office in Chongqing, the largest industrial city in west-central China, to augment its inland network.

Moreover, Uni-Sky will establish offices in Changchun (Jilin Province) and Shenyang (Liaoning Province) in tandem with the full-scale expansion of Japanese automobile and parts manufacturers into the country's northeast.

Offices will also be opened in the Huadong and Huanan regions: in Ningbo (Zhejiang Province), which has seen a sharp rise in marine container cargo volume over the past few years, and in Huizhou (Guangdong Province), which is enjoying a boom in expansion by electronic and apparel companies.

These new offices will bring Nippon Express' network in China to 66 locations operated by 18 local subsidiaries in 28 cities. Making full use of this network, Nippon Express will continue providing robust logistical support to its customers.
