NED Upgrades Logistics Functions in Dusseldorf and Munich

19 January 2006

Nippon Express (Deutschland) GmbH (NED; Katsumi Sato, President), a local Nippon Express Group company in Germany, upgraded its facilities in Dusseldorf and Munich in December 2005 with the aims of transferring existing branches to new facilities and enhancing their functions.

In Dusseldorf, the Air Cargo Branch and Removals Branch were relocated to a new logistics facility constructed by the city's development corporation in an area adjacent to the Dusseldorf International Airport. With an eye to obtaining TAPA certification, the facility has been made highly secure and equipped with a video surveillance system as well as a safe for valuables. The facility also features ULD devices for air cargo, movable racks for more efficient distribution, and a work area designed to prevent build-ups of static electricity. In addition to offering prompt and top-quality logistics services, the new location includes a highly secure trunk room for use in removals and storage operations.

In Munich, the Munich Branch's Logistics Center, which has long handled primarily air cargo, was expanded, and ocean cargo operations based elsewhere in the city were relocated to and consolidated in this Center. This has further enhanced the Center's total logistics functions for supply chain management (SCM) and made it better able to support parts logistics for the automobile industry, which has been expanding in Munich and other parts of southern Germany. The Center will also be used as a base for logistics operations involving nearby countries such as the Czech Republic and Hungary in Eastern Europe as well as Italy and Switzerland.

Both of these upgraded locations will serve NED as high-speed logistics centers to cope with expanding logistics demand in the European region and to meet precisely the increasingly diverse and sophisticated needs of customers.
