Nippon Express Group establishes new company and opens two new offices in Mexico
3 April 2006
Nippon Express, through its US subsidiary Nippon Express U.S.A., Inc. (head office: New York City; Tadaaki Hashimoto, President), has established a new company in Tijuana, Mexico - Nippon Express USA de Tijuana S.A. de C.V. - that opened for business on April 1.
Situated in northern Mexico near the US border, Tijuana has enjoyed a concentration of companies engaged in export to the US as a bonded processing zone under the 1965 Maquiladora system*, and many Japanese electronic/electric equipment manufacturers have set up operations there.
NE Tijuana has developed an integrated shipment/receipt system to meet logistics needs arising in importing raw materials and parts from Japan and Asia via the US to this zone and in storing, processing for distribution, and exporting to the US finished and semi-finished products. The new company will provide high-quality transport services through in-house operations.
Nippon Express de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (Masaki Tani, President), Nippon Express' local subsidiary in Mexico, has also created new contact offices in Manzanillo (March 9) and Aguascalientes (March 31).
By opening an office in Manzanillo, the largest port on Mexico's Pacific coast, NE Mexico is seeking to enhance the quality of its operations and strengthen its customer service.
Numerous Japanese and other companies have expanded into the Aguascalientes area, and, given that no other Japanese forwarder has an office with full-time Japanese staff there, Nippon Express expects to tap into the potential demand for logistics services. The Aguascalientes Office is working in cooperation with the new Manzanillo Office (seaport) and the existing Guadalajara Office (airport) to acquire new equipment transport, air and ocean cargo, and removals cargo business.
These new business locations in Tijuana, Manzanillo, and Aguascalientes, together with the previously established branches in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, bring Nippon Express' operational structure in Mexico to six locations.
The Nippon Express Group's overseas network now boasts 314 locations in 186 cities in 37 countries, and 81 locations in 64 cities in 5 countries in the Americas (North and South America).
- Maquiladora system: a system exempting from Mexican import duties raw materials and parts imported for product production and export by Mexican factories
