Nippon Express to establish new company in St. Petersburg, Russia
30 June 2006
Nippon Express Co., Ltd., through its German subsidiary Nippon Express (Deutschland) GmbH (NED; head office: Monchengladbach; Katsumi Sato, President), will be establishing a new company in St. Petersburg, Russia - Nippon Express (St. Petersburg) LLC - that will open for business on July 17.
Nippon Express' logistics operations in Russia thus far have focused mainly on the distribution of consumer goods (principally electrical products) to Moscow, a major market that serves as a gateway to Finland. In June 2005, a Moscow Representative Office was established to conduct market surveys and gather information with an eye to further expansion.
Recent announcements by a Japanese automobile manufacturer and other companies on the establishment of new business locations in St. Petersburg, Russia's second largest city, are indicative of the formation of a logistics market for automotive goods in Russia and of growing demand for logistics services in St. Petersburg, Russia's largest port and a gateway to inland destinations in Russia and the rest of Europe.
This has prompted Nippon Express to create a new company in St. Petersburg, expanding its own operations so that it can propose to customers new solutions for Russian logistics from this location.
In developing business in the St. Petersburg-Finland-Moscow triangle, Nippon Express will provide integrated ground, sea, and air cargo services to meet the logistics needs of customers in Japan and Asia as well as across Europe.
The new company in St. Petersburg will bring the Nippon Express Group's overseas network to 319 locations in 189 cities in 37 countries, and its European network to 63 locations in 48 cities in 20 countries.
