Frankfurt Facility Receives TAPA Class A Certification

4 July 2006

On May 16, Nippon Express (Deutschland) GmbH (NED; Katsumi Sato, President), Nippon Express' local subsidiary in Germany, was notified that its Frankfurt Branch (more specifically, the High-Speed Logistics Center in Frankfurt International Airport's CargoCity South) had been awarded Class A certification by TAPA for meeting that organization's security standards for air cargo handling.

TAPA is the acronym for the Technology Asset Protection Association, a non-profit association of security professionals and security managers at high-tech and household appliance companies that was founded in the US in 1997 and began operations in Europe in 1999. The standards established by TAPA are also used to improve the level of safety in the transport industry, and they are regarded worldwide as the premier guidelines for practical security and safety methodology. Clients, especially those in high-tech industries, have come to demand that transport companies also satisfy TAPA standards.

TAPA offers three levels of certification with increasingly strict requirements from Class C to Class A, the class awarded to NED, the first Japanese forwarder in Germany to earn Class A certification.

The High-Speed Logistics Center was designed from the outset with the acquisition of TAPA certification in mind, and surveillance cameras, room access control systems, and other physical security measures have made it into an air cargo facility providing the utmost in security. Viewing TAPA certification as newly added value, Nippon Express is committed to providing even better quality service at this facility as a secure core gateway to Europe.
