NEU builds major facility adjacent to Chicago's O'Hara Airport

Nippon Express U.S.A., Inc. (NEU; Kenryo Senda, President), an American subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd., recently completed construction of a major facility adjacent to Chicago's O'Hara International Airport, one of the US' largest cargo hubs, transferred its mainstay Chicago Air Cargo Branch to this location, and began full-scale operations at the new facility.

Given the heavy concentration of automobile and automotive parts manufacturers in the American Midwest, NEU is seeking not only to increase the volume of air cargo it handles but also to expand its total logistics operations, including DC operations incorporating domestic transport as well as ocean cargo handling. NEU recognized the need for a new large-scale facility to achieve these aims.

The Chicago Air Cargo Branch operates shuttle truck services on a daily basis to Nippon Express locations throughout the Midwest, offers “Midwest Time Advantage (MTA) Service" that delivers import air cargo on the day after its arrival at the airport, and otherwise serves as a regional gateway for air cargo.

The new facility has a warehouse area of 11,055 m2, making it nearly 35% larger than its predecessor and bringing NEU's total warehouse area to 371,565 m2. Certification by TAPA, whose standards are regarded worldwide as the premier guidelines for practical security, will be obtained as with the previous branch location; indeed, this new facility was specifically designed to conform to TAPA Class A standards.

The efficiency of a new and large facility, thorough security management, and round-the-clock operation will enable NEU to achieve even higher quality in its air cargo handling and to better provide comprehensive truck/rail, ocean and air logistics services.
