Nippon Express to open representative office in Bangladesh

11 May 2010

Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Masanori Kawai, President) has this month dispatched a full-time staff member to Dhaka, Bangladesh to undertake preparations for the opening of a representative office there this summer.

Bangladesh has been in the spotlight in recent years as an investment destination for textile manufacturers and other companies. The country has already become one of the major suppliers for apparel goods to European and American markets, and has been expanding its exports to Japan.

Given its strong geopolitical ties to India, Bangladesh is seen as an important staging point within Nippon Express' transport network development strategy for the industrial arteries connecting ASEAN and India, two of Asia's largest economic zones.

Once open, the representative office will seek to handle not only apparel-related products, Bangladesh's principal export commodity, but also automotive and consumer goods expected to enjoy future growth.

Nippon Express has advocated the expansion of business in Asia's emerging markets as a key step toward achieving an international sales ratio of 50% and is aiming, within two years of the opening of the Bangladesh representative office, to establish a local subsidiary capable of providing integrated ground, ocean, and air logistics services.
