Nippon Express Indonesia receives halal certification

April 17, 2018

-- Will begin full-scale transport of halal products in Indonesia --

PT Nippon Express Indonesia (Tetsuji Yonaiyama, President; hereinafter, "NE Indonesia"), a local subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), has received halal certification effective April 12 from Indonesia's halal certifying body The Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics - Indonesian Council of Ulama (LPPOM-MUI).

Muslims make up nearly 90% of Indonesia's population, and laws are expected to go into effect in 2019 that will require halal certification for all food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical products distributed or traded within Indonesia. Both consumers and companies within Indonesia have been showing growing interest in halal certification.

NE Indonesia is a local subsidiary engaged primarily in air cargo forwarding, and the certification that it has just obtained covers transport and warehouse storage in Indonesia. To more widely support supply chains in Indonesia, preparations to obtain same certification are underway at two other local subsidiaries in Indonesia responsible for ocean cargo forwarding and warehouse storage.
