Nippon Express Korea constructs first wholly-owned warehouse in Busan Free Trade Zone

Nippon Express Korea Co., Ltd. ("NE Korea"; Shinji Torimoto, CEO), a subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd., is erecting a new company-owned 18,700m2 warehouse in the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) of the Busan New Port Ungdong Hinterland Complex.

This will be NE Korea's first wholly-owned warehouse in South Korea, and construction should be completed by February 2016.

The site of the new warehouse, the Busan New Port Ungdong Hinterland Complex, is a newly-developed FTZ near Busan Port, the sixth largest in the world in the number of containers handled. The new warehouse NE Korea is constructing within this FTZ will be used as a base for multi-country consolidation (Note 1) of cargo being exported from Japan with the aim of providing a range of convenient logistics services.

NE Korea is currently utilizing logistics locations in Busan to handle cross-dock operations for automotive parts, cross-border transport via double-licensing, and DC operations for Internet sales.

As a popular port of call near Japan, Busan Port will likely see increased demand as a principal hub port in the Sea of Japan, and NE Korea's new FTZ warehouse will help serve the logistics needs of this traffic.

NE Korea will also use the new warehouse to boost the efficiency of container freight station (CFS) operations and overseas removals operations and to further improve service quality.

The new warehouse's total floor area of 18,700m2 will be divided among four functions: 13,600m2 for an ordinary warehouse equipped with high- and low-floor platforms and two ceiling cranes, 1,100m2 for a temperature-controlled warehouse (10oC - 25oC), 1,500m2 for a distribution processing space, and 200m2 for a hazardous goods warehouse.

Solar panels will be installed on the warehouse roof and the entire warehouse will use LED lighting, making this an eco-friendly cutting-edge logistics facility.

With the addition of this new facility, NE Korea will have 11 warehouses in South Korea with a total area of 62,313m2.

The Nippon Express Group remains committed to providing high-quality logistics services and supporting the global business efforts of its customers.
