13th Indonesian business location opened in Java's third largest city
PT Nippon Express Indonesia (Tetsuji Yonaiyama, President), a subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd., on March 1 opened a new office in Semarang, the provincial capital of Central Java.
Semarang is Java's third largest city, with a population of 1.39 million.
With wages relatively lower than in Indonesia's capital of Jakarta or Jawa Timur's capital of Surabaya (the country's second largest city), the economic zone around Semarang and the adjacent city of Surakarta (Solo) has expanded in recent years.
Many companies from a range of industries, most notably the textile industry, have relocated here from the national capital region.
The new office will utilize Semarang Airport in handling air cargo import/export forwarding operations centered on automotive parts and apparel goods (garments, shoes, etc.)
