Emphasizing safety, accident-free operation and differentiation by quality, this contest was begun in 2013 as part of Nippon Express' education/training efforts. The contest has been held every March since, and in its fourth year it has already become an essential activity for the Nippon Express Group.

The contest was overseen by two forklift operator instructors dispatched from Japan and seven local instructors who had performed particularly well at past forklift contests and undergone special instructor training, all of whom offered guidance to participants in the advance practice sessions and served as contest judges.

This year's contest featured a total of 20 forklift operators from Nippon Express Group companies in the East Asia Region (mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan), with one person each from first-time participants Nippon Express (Taiwan) and Nittsu NEC Logistics. The contestants competed for places based on their total scores on three tests -- an academic test, a forklift inspection test, and a forklift operation test -- with a total of 800 points being a perfect score. With large numbers of contest officials and organizers looking on, the participants were under pressure to demonstrate the results of their day-to-day training.

The top six participants were presented with awards, and Li Quan from the Shanghai Branch of Nippon Express (China) took first place with a high score of 744 points.

The East Asia Region will be undertaking further efforts to improve safety awareness and operational quality by training forklift instructors who are central to cargo handling operations to help ensure zero accidents/incidents in future workplace operations.
