Nippon Express begins accepting consolidated import cargo bound for Tomakomai via Korea Multi-Country/regions Consolidation Service

Door-to-door service to Tomakomai Port from 22 countries/regions worldwide

Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), will be adding an import consolidated transport service to its Korea Multi-Country/regions Consolidation (MCC) Service* from May 18.

Multi-Country/regions Consolidation (MCC) Service
A service that conveys cargo bound for multiple destinations (countries/regions) from Japan to a hub port for transshipment/consolidation and forwarding

MCC routes

In October 2013 Nippon Express launched its Korea MCC Service that accepts small-lot cargo at local ports in Japan, especially those on the Sea of Japan coast, consolidates this cargo by destination, and exports it to destinations worldwide via Busan. This service was first offered at five ports - Tomakomai, Ishikari, Niigata, Fushiki-toyama and Kanazawa - but the ports of Naoetsu and Hakata have since been added to enable shipments from seven ports in Japan to 36 ports in 21 other countries/regions.

In response to customer needs, the aforementioned export consolidation service is being supplemented by a new import consolidation service initially available at Tomakomai. The Nippon Express Group will aggregate cargo from multiple customers in 56 cities in 22 countries/regions, including the US, who are shipping less than full container loads and transport this cargo safely and securely door-to-door.

Nippon Express intends to expand this service to other ports as customer demand.

Service features

  • This service is able to provide door-to-door transport from origin to Tomakomai Port through collaboration with Nippon Express Group companies in the Americas, Europe, South Asia, East Asia and Japan.
  • Utilizing Tomakomai Port makes transport to other points in Hokkaido less expensive than transiting other major ports.

For example, freight for shipments from Singapore CFS to Tomakomai CFS (using Nippon Express services) would be reduced significantly

  Route Freight Lead time
Conventional service Singapore - Tokyo Port - Tomakomai Port 40-50% x1.5
New service Singapore - Busan Port - Tomakomai Port

Background factors prompting product development

  • Customer demand for low-cost means of importing small-lot cargo
  • Utilization/activation of local ports
