Nippon Express (China) and Nippon Express (Shanghai) hold scholarship award ceremony and public lecture at Shanghai Maritime University

Nippon Express (China) Co., Ltd. (Sumitoshi Matsuo, President), and Nippon Express (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (Kazuoki Oguro, President), both local subsidiaries of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Kenji Watanabe, President), recently held a scholarship award ceremony and a public lecture at Shanghai Maritime University.

Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) was founded in 1912 as Wosong Merchant Marine School, and is now one of China's leading maritime universities, with 15 faculties, 55 departments and a student body of approximately 21,000.

Nippon Express (China) and Nippon Express (Shanghai) established a "Nippon Express Scholarship Fund" in January 2016, and have since offered internships to SMU students and pursued other forms of industrial-academic cooperation aimed at developing human resources capable of playing active roles globally in the logistics industry. This is the second scholarship fund that Nippon Express has set up at a Chinese university, the first being a scholarship fund established in October 2014 at Beijing Wuzi University.

The scholarship award ceremony was held at SMU on February 24, 2017, and was opened with words of encouragement from Tatsuo Sugiyama, Executive Officer and Regional General Manager, East Asia Region.

The award ceremony was followed by a public lecture. President Oguro as the featured speaker made a presentation entitled "International Maritime Transport Operations and Customer Supply Chains," after which he fielded numerous questions from the students that prompted a vigorous exchange of views.

Nippon Express remains committed to actively undertaking social contribution activities in Asia
