New route added to Nippon Express (China)'s Chongqing Sea & Rail Multimodal Transport Service

-- Lead time even shorter than for routes via Qinzhou --

Nippon Express (China) Co., Ltd. (Tatsuo Sugiyama, President), a local subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), has added a new route via Ningbo to its multimodal through transport service connecting Chongqing with various destinations by rail and marine transport launched in February of this year with Qinzhou as a transit point, and sales for this new route began last month.

Description of service

The Chongqing Sea & Rail Service (via Ningbo) combines rail transport from Chongqing to Ningbo with marine transport from Ningbo Port to major ports in Japan, the Americas and Europe. Ningbo Port is the world's fourth-largest container port, and the significant number of routes and vessels using the port offer a wide choice of shipment destinations. The transport time from Ningbo to major ports in Japan is shorter than from Qinzhou, reducing lead time by an average of five days and making the lead time from Chongqing to Tokyo about 11 days.

Background to development

The Chongqing Sea & Rail Service was launched in February and, as the transit point of Qinzhou is near Vietnam, it has been frequently utilized for shipments to Southeast Asia. Maritime transport from Chongqing ordinarily uses the Yangtze River to transport goods by domestic vessel to Shanghai. Although the impact of the Yangtze River's dry winter season and the spring repair work on the Sanxia Dam has somewhat diminished, domestic vessels using the Yangtze River currently take about 15 days to get from Chongqing to Shanghai. Given that sailing conditions on the river can quickly change due to fog or other weather conditions, the new route via Ningbo was developed to meet the needs of customers requiring a reliable transport schedule for shipments to Japan in particular.

To meet ever-diversifying logistics needs, Nippon Express remains committed to developing new multimodal transport products in order to further expand its global logistics business.
