Nippon Express conducts trial transport using exclusive cargo train Trial run of block train from Xian, China to Duisberg, Germany

Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), conducted a trial run of a block train organized by the company in the Xian International Trade & Logistics Park (Xian, China) that departed Xian Station for Duisberg Station in Germany on Thursday, December 20.

This block train trial run was conducted in connection with the FY2018 "Business Feasibility Study Project for Overseas Development of High-quality Infrastructure (Study on Improving Hard and Soft Infrastructure to Promote Utilization of the China Land Bridge)" being carried out by Nippon Express at the request of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

This trial run utilized a single freight train that transported 41 containers over a period of 16-17 days from Xian Station to Duisberg Station (Germany).

Speaking at the departure ceremony, Nippon Express Managing Executive Officer Tatsuo Sugiyama noted: "Manufacturing is becoming increasingly diverse from procurement to production, with materials being procured, goods produced and end products consumed at various locations. Given the growing need for on-time, inexpensive and convenient logistics, scheduled bulk transport by rail will be key."

Nippon Express is looking to begin regular block train operation in or after March 2019.
