Nippon Express opens representative office in Kazakhstan

The East Asia Region (Regional General Manager: Tatsuo Sugiyama, Managing Executive Officer) of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), has established a representative office in the city of Almaty in the Republic of Kazakhstan, and a ceremony was held on Tuesday, August 13 to mark the opening of this office.

Approximately 20 guests attended the opening ceremony, including Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development Toktabayev Timur Serikovich and other Kazakh government officials, First Secretary Yukio Ishibiki of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Kazakhstan, international transport officials from China, and KTZ Express General Director Dmitriy Abdullayev. Attendees from Nippon Express included President Mitsuru Saito, Senior Managing Executive Officer Satoshi Horikiri, and Managing Executive Officer Tatsuo Sugiyama, Regional General Manager, East Asia Region.

President Saito thanked the guests for taking the time to attend the opening ceremony, and pointed out that the representative office would serve as a link between East Asia and Europe and would strive to contribute to the development of Kazakhstan primarily through logistics.

On the day before the opening ceremony (the 12th), President Saito met with Kazakh Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development Roman Sklyar, who on behalf of the Kazakh government welcomed the opening of the representative office.

President Saito also met with Sauat Mynbayev, Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, Kazakhstan's national railway company, with whom he exchanged views on further developing the international railway businesses of both companies.

Situated in Central Asia at the heart of the Eurasian continent, Kazakhstan occupies a strategic location for railway transport linking East Asia and Europe.

The Kazakhstan Representative Office will collect information and conduct marketing surveys locally. It will also take into account the geographic characteristics of Central Asia in verifying Kazakhstan's future commercial potential in order to expand business between East Asia and Europe.

With the opening of this representative office, the Nippon Express Group network now spans 304 cities in 48 countries/regions.

Nippon Express will continue bolstering its efforts in untapped markets such as Central Asia in order to meet the diversifying logistics needs of customers around the world.
