Nippon Express (Cambodia) completes construction of Phnom Penh Logistics Center

Nippon Express (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., (Toru Takei, President; hereinafter, "NE Cambodia"), a local subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), has completed construction of the Phnom Penh Logistics Center, a multifunctional logistics warehouse in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and an opening ceremony for the facility was held on Monday, December 23.

The opening ceremony was attended by a total of about 160 guests, including H.E. Masahiro Mikami, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Dr. Kun Nhem, Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise at Cambodia's Ministry of Economy and Finance, and representatives from customer/partner companies, as well as President Saito and Executive Officer Shinjiro Takezoe, Regional General Manager, South Asia & Oceania Region, from Nippon Express.

President Saito told the audience at the opening ceremony: "The establishment of this Center will further bolster our ability to provide high-quality and high added-value logistics services in Cambodia and the Greater Mekong Region, and we are convinced that this will enable us to contribute even further to our customers' business activities. We will be striving through logistics to become a driving force behind Cambodia's social development."

The Phnom Penh SEZ in which the new Center is situated offers a very convenient location as a logistics site, being 18km from the capital Phnom Penh and 8km from Phnom Penh International Airport and sitting alongside National Road No. 4 connecting to Sihanoukville Autonomous Port. The SEZ also lies within the GMS(*) Southern Economic Corridor, making it a strategic hub for logistics linking up Bangkok, Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and expectations are high for still further growth in logistics demand.

Nippon Express opened a representative office in Phnom Penh in 2011 and established NE Cambodia in 2013, since which time this subsidiary has provided a variety of logistics services and developed a robust business infrastructure in Cambodia, which is seeing a growing concentration of manufacturing companies.

NE Cambodia will use this new Center to reinforce its logistics functions and better serve the full range of its customers' logistics needs, including air/ocean cargo forwarding, domestic sales logistics, manufacturing logistics (just-in-time delivery), cross-border truck transport, and storage/distribution using air-conditioned facilities.

GMS: Greater Mekong Sub-region; the region straddling the Mekong River basin comprising the five countries of Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar as well as China's Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region
