Before you move...
1. A moving plan is crucial to ensure a smooth transition to your new living space.
To ensure a smooth start to your life in Japan, it's important to plan ahead based on your planned return date and move-in date to your new home, including scheduling shipments by sea or air, and delivery of any belongings you left behind in Japan.
2. We need to check your luggage and its quantity.
When transporting your belongings, it's important to check in advance whether it fits within your budget and complies with your employer's regulations.
3. Some items are subject to taxes or are prohibited from import.
Even if they are moving belongings, souvenirs and items purchased shortly before returning home are subject to taxation. Also, please note that items purchased duty-free in Japan are not duty-free in Japan. Furthermore, even if you possessed or used something locally, be aware that it may be prohibited by law to import it into Japan.
4. Optimal packaging is required to ensure the safety of your belongings.
Your cargo will be transported over long distances by ship, plane, truck, or train. During transport, it may be exposed to vibrations, shocks, significant changes in temperature and humidity due to climate and environment, and sometimes even theft. For this reason, optimal packaging that takes your cargo's safety into consideration is necessary.
5. It is important to insure your belongings.
International moves involve transporting goods through many different hands, so accidents can happen. Moreover, compensation for damages by the transport company is limited by the terms and conditions of carriage, so it is important to purchase cargo insurance.
6. The declaration form for personal and unaccompanied baggage is an important document for import customs clearance.
To import your belongings into Japan, you must prepare the necessary documents and undergo customs inspection. In particular, the "Declaration of Personal Effects and Unaccompanied Baggage" is an essential document, so please be sure to complete it.
