NIPPON EXPRESS GROUP

Sea-pack / Mini-pack

Sea-pack and mini-pack are services in which all baggage is packed by the customer.
Sea-pack is 0.8 m3, and mini-pack is 0.4 m3, and thus fees are set for small volumes of baggage. Both of these are pack products in which items are separately shipped “unaccompanied” to Japan door-to-door simply and inexpensively.
In the case that the customer is not personally returning to Japan and is only sending baggage, the method for customs clearance on the Japan side is different (The baggage is not handled as “unaccompanied” separately shipped items.)

Characteristics

  • These services are perfect for persons returning to Japan after studying abroad, taking a working holiday, or working abroad.
  • Baggage is collected from the customer’s home.
  • The Nippon Express network is used, so transport is safe and reliable.
  • Nippon Express takes care of operations such as troublesome customs-clearance procedures during both exporting and importing.

Process for sea-pack/mini-pack

Key point 1
Documents are required in accordance with the domestic laws of Australia, and the laws and regulations of Japan.
In the case of household-moving baggage, documents are needed for customs clearance. Nevertheless, customs-clearance procedures will be carried out by Nippon Express.

Key point 2
Baggage should be packed securely.
The baggage will be transported over a long distance by aircraft, trucks, and so on. During transport it will be subject to vibrations, impacts, and significant changes in temperature and humidity due to the weather and climate, and there is sometimes also a risk of theft. Therefore, it is necessary to pack in the optimal way taking into consideration the safety of the baggage.

Key point 3
Sometimes taxes are levied on importing (customs duties and domestic consumption taxes), and sometimes items are prohibited or subject to restrictions.
There are items regarding which carriage from Australia is prohibited or subject to restrictions, and items regarding which importing into Japan is prohibited or subject to restrictions.
Furthermore, some items are subject to taxes levied on importing (customs duties and domestic consumption taxes), and special fees.

Key point 4
It is important to purchase insurance to cover baggage.
In order to minimize the damages in the event that there is an accident involving your valuable baggage, we recommend declaring the price at which it would be possible to repurchase the baggage.

*When you are returning to Japan, it is necessary to report “unaccompanied” separately shipped items, so please do not forget to do this. For details, please contact Nippon Express Australia.

4. Preparation of required documents

Even in the case of household-moving baggage that is being transported when returning to Japan, customs procedures are required. Although the declaration to customs will be carried out Nippon Express, you will need to fill out a single-pack application form for the procedures. Please have the application form ready by the date that we collect your baggage.
The single-pack application form is a document required for customs clearance, and at the same time, it serves as our transport contract with the customer and a letter of attorney for export customs clearance. Your baggage will be transported based on this contract, so when you fill it out, please make sure that it is free from errors. The sheet for the single-pack application form can be downloaded by clicking below.
