Moving packing plan
To everyone returning to Japan (or relocating) from the Philippines
Prepare in advance
For those of you returning to Japan or starting a new job and preparing to move.
Please let us know as soon as possible once your transfer is confirmed.
March and April, in particular, are the busiest months for moving and get very crowded.
Even if you haven't decided on a specific date yet, start by getting an estimate and understanding the amount of luggage you'll be moving.
Company-restricted quota
Typically, your employer has regulations regarding the amount of cargo to be transported (○ cft by sea freight, ○ kgs by air freight), the number of shipments, and the amount of insurance coverage. Exceeding these limits usually results in personal charges. Since this depends on factors such as whether you are traveling alone, the number of accompanying family members, and your length of stay, please check your company's regulations in advance.
Example of company regulations
| Sea freight | 3m³ for himself, 5m³ for spouse, 2m³ for one child |
|---|---|
| Airmail | Self 30kgs, spouse 30kgs, child 10kgs |
| Sea freight/air freight transfer | Possible |
| Insurance coverage limit | Nothing in particular. |
| Number of shipments | Two sea freight trips, two air freight trips. |
- * Airmail shipments have both actual weight and box size weight.
Sorting luggage
It's important to select your belongings based on your expected lifestyle after moving, considering the urgency of each item and your budget.
- Sea freight
Bulky items such as furniture, fragile items (dishes, electrical appliances), heavy items (books), and other items that are not particularly urgent. - Airmail
Items you will need immediately upon returning home (company documents, school supplies, souvenirs, etc.) that cannot be carried in your hand luggage.
Be careful not to put cash, valuables, or fragile items inside. - Carry-on baggage (items you will be carrying with you)
Items you will need right up until departure and immediately upon returning home (cash, valuables, souvenirs, school enrollment documents, driver's license, etc.).
Baggage restrictions vary depending on the airline and ticket type.
Check this when booking your flight tickets. - Items to be given to an acquaintance (to be left behind or disposed of in the Philippines)
Electrical appliances designed for overseas use, plants and animals, items that won't fit in your new home in Japan, and items that don't meet company restrictions. - Owner's equipment
Before moving, be sure to check that you don't accidentally include furniture, appliances, dishes, paintings, ornaments, room keys, remote controls, instruction manuals, and other items in your moving boxes.
To everyone returning to Japan
Let's decide when you'll move your belongings, which are currently stored in a storage unit or at your parents' house, to your new home.
Please arrange a direct meeting with the Japanese branch office in charge.
If you have a lot of furniture and other items that require storage, it's best to move within Japan first to secure storage space before receiving your items by sea freight. This will make the storage process smoother.
