FAQ about Fine Arts Transportation
Our company defines works of art as "irreplaceable and invaluable cultural assets." Therefore, we only handle them through art dealers that possess specialized equipment, vehicles, and staff. As the number of dealers, art-specific vehicles, and dedicated staff is limited, advance reservations are required. We are currently receiving a very large number of transportation requests, and we apologize in advance if we are unable to accept your request on certain dates.
We offer customized transportation services tailored to the type of artwork and the scope of work required. Since we use specialized art transport vehicles and skilled art handling personnel, we cannot handle mixed shipments.
Please provide all of the following information in order to prepare a quote. A site visit may be required depending on the circumstances.
- Type of item (paintings, sculptures, hanging scrolls, folding screens, etc.)
- Quantity, size (length x width x height in cm), packaging condition
- Appraisal value of each work
- Business partner's address, delivery address, name
- Desired pickup/delivery date
- Purpose of transportation (gift, exhibition exhibit, sale, etc.)
We will do our best to offer you a suitable option, but please note that we do not accept shipments via courier service, so the cost will be considerably higher. We may not be able to meet your requests regarding price or arrangements.
While there are air and sea transport options, sea transport, which takes many days and is long-term, is not recommended for paintings due to concerns about potential damage to the artwork.
First, please consult with the place of purchase. Typically, the place of purchase (art dealer/gallery) has arrangements in place for international shipping (deals with shipping companies). We may be able to assist you from the moment the artwork arrives at a Japanese airport.
Depending on the region, there are art storage facilities (temperature controlled at 20°C to 22°C and humidity controlled at 50% to 55%). Due to limited space, we may not be able to accept items depending on the volume. Storage fees vary depending on the region and time of year, so we will contact you from the relevant branch.
Yes, it is possible. However, this is contingent on us accepting your transportation request. Please provide a list with the appraised value of each item. Insurance premiums vary depending on the type of artwork (paintings, vases, hanging scrolls, Buddhist statues, etc.), insurance period, and appraised value.
