Packaging Expertise
Usuyoshi — Primary Wrapping Material in Direct Contact with Artworks
Usuyoshi is a soft, pH-neutral Japanese paper developed by Nippon Express for use as a primary wrapping material placed directly against artworks. Its moisture-absorbing properties are essential for transporting and storing historic artworks that are sensitive to humidity changes. It becomes soft when crumpled, yet strong enough to stand when twisted along its grain. As a natural material, it also helps reduce environmental impact.
Cartons — Approximately 10 Types of Purpose-Designed Boxes
We offer approximately 10 types of corrugated cartons designed specifically for fine-art transportation. Made from thick, durable board, they protect artworks from impact during transit. For non-standard works, we create custom packaging by hand—for example, by cutting and assembling flat corrugated sheets into boxes or by producing wooden frames and support structures for three-dimensional works.
Wooden Crates for International Transportation — Protection in Demanding Conditions
International transportation exposes artworks to more demanding conditions, so we provide additional protection through custom wooden crates. Made from fumigated wood, the crates can incorporate cushioning, insulation, and humidity-control materials to protect against impact and sudden changes in temperature and humidity. They are also designed to be handled and opened safely, even by someone opening the crate for the first time.
Experience and Craftsmanship
Selecting the right material for the right part of an artwork—and packing it simply, efficiently, and safely—requires more than a broad range of materials. The experience and technical expertise to combine those materials optimally are the foundation of high-quality fine-art transportation.
