Impact of the M7.4 Earthquake in Colombia

Disclaimer: This information is based on publicly available information and our operational knowledge. Please note that due to the volatile nature of the situation, real-time conditions may differ from the information provided here.

Colombia remains under an active national state of emergency following the 7.4-magnitude earthquake recorded on August 10, 2026. The situation continues to affect transportation, critical infrastructure, security, and logistics operations, particularly across key corridors in central and western Colombia.

As a result, transit and connection times in affected areas should not be considered guaranteed, and operations may be subject to delays or changes.

1. Ground Transportation

Several strategic road corridors remain affected by full closures and restricted access, including:

  • Manizales–Fresno / Alto de Letras: full closure
  • Pereira–Chinchiná: full closure
  • Cali–Loboguerrero: multiple full closures
  • Buga–Buenaventura / Buenaventura–Buga: multiple affected sections
  • La Unión–La Victoria: full closure due to bridge collapse
  • Armenia–Alcalá: full closure
  • Montenegro–Quimbaya: restricted access and single-lane traffic

These conditions may affect cargo transportation, regional distribution, access to the Coffee Region, Cali–Buenaventura connectivity, and foreign trade operations.

2. Maritime Terminals – Buenaventura

  • Buenaventura: the Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Buenaventura continues to inspect terminal infrastructure and equipment to assess potential operational impacts.
  • Agua Dulce Terminal: operations remain temporarily closed.

Resumption of operations remains subject to infrastructure assessments and official updates from the respective terminal operators.

3. Air Transportation

The infrastructure and operational conditions of several airports remain under evaluation, including:

Pereira, Cartago, Manizales, Armenia, Buenaventura, and Quibdó.

Flights may be subject to temporary suspensions, restrictions, or operational changes while safety inspections continue.

4. Customs Operations – Buenaventura

The Buenaventura Customs Office (DIAN) has extended the suspension of deadlines for National Customs Transit, International Customs Transit, and Multimodal Transportation operations through Auto 2518, dated August 10, 2026.

The extension applies from August 11 to August 18, 2026, for previously authorized and ongoing transit operations handled by the Buenaventura Customs Office.

The measure responds to the earthquake-related closure of the Buenaventura–Loboguerrero–Buga corridor and the suspension of activities at SPRBUN, TCBUEN, and SPIA. Applicable delays resulting from this contingency will not generate penalties or rescue payments under the stated conditions.

5. Operational Outlook

The logistics situation continues to evolve. Transportation and foreign trade operations may experience delays, route changes, access restrictions, and adjustments to transit times.

NX will continue monitoring the situation closely and will provide further updates as authorities, terminals, and operators confirm new information.

This report reflects the information available at the time of issuance. Conditions may change rapidly due to infrastructure assessments, aftershocks, and decisions by the relevant authorities.
